I am a first generation Mexican American.  The first in my family to earn each of the various degrees I've earned.  I'm an educational leader who is interested in racial equity, meeting the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students and improving the educational experience of all students.

I was born and raised in El Paso, TX. I entered the school system as a reader and definitely meeting and exceeding kindergarten readiness standards. Unfortunately, everything I knew I knew in Spanish so for the school system I was "at risk". Thus began my trajectory into what Dr. Angela Valenzuela has termed "subtractive schooling".

I was also renamed by the school system because my name was too difficult to pronounce. Since birth my name has been modified, misspelled, and mispronounced. This lived experience fuels my passion and advocacy for honoring the identities of our culturally and linguistically diverse students.
